2007 March 18 - Dr. Fred Holbrook - we will welcome
a guest minister. Diane will be in New Orleans with our mission
group and it will be our pleasure to welcome Dr. Fred Holbrook to
LPC. Fred is a Virginia native, born in Waynesboro, Virginia. He
graduated cum laude from King College in Bristol, TN with a B.A. in
Bible and Religion. He then attended and graduated from Union
Theological Seminary, Richmond, VA with the degree – Doctor of
Ministry. Fred was Associate Pastor, Amity Presbyterian Church,
Charlotte, NC; Pastor, Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church,
Fishersville, VA; and is currently Executive Director, Massanetta
Springs Camp and Conference Center, Harrisonburg, VA. Some of his
Ecclesiastical Service includes Past Chair of Shenandoah Presbytery
Council; Parliamentarian for Shenandoah Presbytery; serving on the
Committee on Ministry, Shenandoah Presbytery; National trainer for
the LOGOS Program; and Commissioner to the 216th General Assembly of
the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). I know that you will all join the
Worship Committee in welcoming Dr. Holbrook.
2007 February 04 - Dr. Lee Corder - Dr. Lee Corder is the
Senior Vice President for Young Life International Division
overseeing all YL International work in the northern hemisphere. He
also serves as Senior Chaplain for the NFL’s Washington Redskins. In
the past Lee has served Young Life as U.S. Senior Vice President,
International Director overseeing Europe and Africa, Regional
Director of the Commonwealth Region and Area Director in four areas;
in both Maryland and Virginia. He is a Navy veteran and worked for
several years for the U. S. Government in property management. Lee
has received the Ruritan National Appreciation Award, the Exchange
Club Appreciation Award, the Rotary Service Award and was named to
the Outstanding Young Men of America by the Jaycees. He has been
active in Rotary, church sessions and other community service
organizations. Education includes graduation from the University of
Virginia with a BA in Government and a Masters of Divinity degree
from Fuller Theological Seminary. He has completed a Doctorate of
Ministry from Columbia Seminary and is ordained in the Presbyterian
Church (USA). Lee and his wife Paula live in Leesburg, Virginia and
have four grown children, Justin, Micah, Wil and Laura.
2006 April 30 - Charles N. Pickell - A native of Haddonfield, New Jersey, Charles N.
Pickell is a graduate of Juniata College in Pennsylvania, and
Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He also engaged in graduate study
at both Harvard University and Andover Newton Theological School in
Massachusetts. Dr. Pickell served churches in the Pittsburgh and
Boston areas before moving to National Capital Presbytery where he
ministered for 38 years before moving to Charlottesville, VA in
November 2000. He has been Moderator of Boston and National Capital
Presbyteries and of the Synod of New England. In addition, he
served on the Boards of Trustees of Westminiser College in
Pennsylvania and Gordon College, and Gordon Divinity School in
Massachusetts, and was an adjunct professor at Gordon Divinity
School. He was also an incorporator of Gordon Conwell Theological
Seminary in Massachusetts. He is the author of five books, and has
written adult church school curriculum, as well as articles and
poetry for Christian periodicals such as Christianity Today. For
nearly thirty years he was a volunteer firefighter and chaplain for
the Fire and Rescue Departments of Fairfax and Loudoun Counties.
In retirement, he has served as Parish Associate at the Leesburg
Presbyterian Church, a post he now holds at the First Presbyterian
Church of Charlottesville.
2006 May 28 - Wilson Gunn,
Jr. - Dr. G. Wilson Gunn, Jr. grew up in Arkansas, matriculated
at Davidson College (BA), Duke University (MDiv and ThM) and the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (PhD). He served
pastorates in North Carolina and Virginia (including two new church
developments) for 20 years before entering executive service in
Grace Presbytery (NE Texas area). In March, 2004 he began serving
National Capital Presbytery as General Presbyter. He and his wife
Pam have four children (Lisa, Daniel, Ben and Rachael) and recently
became grandparents (Jacob).
2006 June 18 - Molly Douthett
– Rev. Douthett grew up outside Denver, Colorado where she earned a
BA in psychology from the University of Colorado at Denver. She
then went to Princeton Theological Seminary and graduated in 1989
with her Master of Divinity. Rev. Douthett received her first call
to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Ohio in 1990 and
married David Douthett that same summer. They had their first child,
daughter Meredith, in 1992 and she began serving a small rural
church when Meredith was 7 months old. They moved to Dayton, Ohio
in 1995, a year after their son Jacob was born. They lived in
Dayton for nine years; David served as pastor at Corinth
Presbyterian and Molly served as interim associate pastor at Oxford
PC in Oxford, OH and then as stated supply at Morning Sun PC in
Morning Sun, OH. She was very active in the life of Miami
Presbytery all those years. She was a delegate to the 213th General
Assembly in Louisville, KY and served as Moderator of Miami
Presbytery in 2002-2003. They moved to Waterford, VA in January
2004 and are all very busy with the life and ministry of Catoctin PC
where David is pastor. Currently, she serves the National Capitol
Presbytery by supply preaching and meeting with the CARE team of the
Committee on Ministry.
