Project Restore Ferry Place – A New Challenge for the Katrina Relief Team

It has been two years now since Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans.  There is still much devastation and destruction but there is also hope.  The Mission & Witness Committee is pleased to announce that this year our Katrina Relief Team to New Orleans will be working with “RHINO: Rebuilding Hope in New Orleans” a very well regarded community outreach program based at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church.  Lodging reservations have been made for 20 volunteers for the week of Sunday, March 2 to Saturday, March 8, 2008.

 We have just received their proposal and mission statement for Project Restore Ferry Place.  They plan to revitalize the Ferry Place neighborhood by working with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity (NOAHH), partner churches, volunteers, and families to build fourteen new homes along the block of Ferry Place.  Their goal is to raise $700,000 to completely fund all fourteen homes and do the building necessary to bring their citizens back to their homes.
